Courses in Allied Health and Nursing – Health Tech

Courses in Allied Health and Nursing provide students with an opportunity to explore careers in the medical health profession. They begin the pathway as juniors and complete the program their senior year. There is a new exciting course for freshman as well!

Health Tech

Health Technologies I is the first course in the two-year program. Students will enter this course as juniors. It consists of Health Science and Technology and Medical Terminology. Students in this course will study a variety of health care careers and analyze the business process of health science career fields. They will learn principles of effective communication, legal and ethical issues, health and safety practices. They will also complete training in First Aid and CPR. The course will consist of learning medical language, body systems, disease processes, basic assessment, and abbreviations. Throughout the year the students will also learn Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, and Physical Therapy Assistant skills. Field trips and guest speakers are integrated throughout the school year.

Health Technologies II is the second course in the two year program, and it is for seniors. It consists of the following classes: Allied Health, Patient Centered Care, and a Senior Capstone. Students in this course will participate in the Nurse Aide Training Competency and Evaluation Program (NATCEP) as per requirements of Ohio Department of Health. Upon successful completion, students will be able to sit for the State Tested Nurse Aide Exam to become registered state tested nurses’ aides. In addition students will focus on employability skills such as applying for jobs, writing a resume, and job interviewing. If students meet specified criteria they are eligible for early job placement in any health care career setting during the second semester of their senior year. They may have the opportunity to work as an STNA or job shadow occupations such as school nurse, athletic trainer, and more. Students will continue to expand upon the the skills and knowledge learned during their junior year. Upon completion of the two year program students can earn multiple college credits** and pursue additional training in health care, physical therapy, and nursing.

**College credits may be earned for qualifying classes with an average of C+ or higher as per articulation agreements with NCSC
